Soft Hollywood Glam with Ashley
Over the weekend I experimented with a softer style of photography inspired by one of my favorite photographers, Vivienne Mok. The style reminds me of old school Hollywood glam, and I love how romantic it looks. This technique was achieved by placing black organza fabric in front of the lens. I find that black is the best color for the look I’m going for, because it doesn’t wash out the colors like using the pantyhose method does. Black organza gift bags (usually from jewelry stores) seem to work better than buying organza fabric at a fabric store. The fabric needs to be thin enough to allow the camera to focus properly. I really wanted to achieve a subtle look, and wasn’t trying to obscure the image completely. The organza material creates the soft, glowing effect while the black color retains the contrast and purity of the colors in the scene.
This is just one of four similarly styled shoots I did over the weekend. I look forward to sharing more from this project soon!
