Ethereal Portraiture | Inspired by Vivienne Mok
Ever since I discovered Vivienne Mok on YouTube, I’ve been obsessed with her feminine, ethereal boudoir portraits. Viewing her work is like stepping into another world. I love the softness in her photographs and the hazy light that shimmers in the air. Her photographs are a world I want to live in, a dream I don’t want to wake up from. Check out her Instagram to be inspired too!

I set out to create my own fairytale series inspired by Vivienne’s style. To achieve the hazy effect in her images, Vivienne creates her own lens filters by placing a thin piece of sheer fabric onto the lens. The fabric diffuses the light, but is thin enough not to affect the quality of the image too much. I used this technique in most of my photos, but sometimes I opted for the old chapstick on the lens trick to compare the results.
For the location I chose the magical Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve in Fishers, IN. The lush greenery and hanging vines are straight out of a fairytale. The woods are very popular with locals and indeed, Jenny and I passed three other photographers during our shoot!
